Read more about Seymour Gordon's Life: Warwick resident Seymour Gordon, considered one of the driving forces behind the town’s effort to preserve its farms and farmlands, passed away on Wednesday, July 28. He was 87.
Much of Orange County’s beauty has been preserved thanks to the work of Gordon, who’s been involved in the promotion of agriculture and open space preservation since the 1940s when he joined the Warwick Valley School District High School Agricultural Advisory Board. Soon after that he became treasurer of Future Farmers of America.
Gordon organized and chaired the Warwick Purchase of Development Rights Alliance, which successfully promoted a referendum in the Town of Warwick authorizing a $9.5 million bond issue that has permanently preserved more than 2,500 acres of Warwick farmland and saved 17 farms. He was also involved with Warwick Conservancy.
